Guaratuba fishermen are contributing to research into the use of the TED – turtle escape device, created to prevent them from getting trapped in fishing nets. This Tuesday (28), the Liberty XI boat left the public pier in front of the Municipal Market to fish for seven-barb shrimp off the coast of São Paulo, carrying a device of this type on board in one of the two trawl nets.

The vessel belongs to Angelo João de Aguiar, who is the master. The crew is also composed of Lucas Matheus, Jean Carlos Alves and Alcindo do Anjos.
With them was the scientific observer Tunam Thomé, a student of Oceanography at the Center for the Study of the Sea, at UFPR, who will monitor all the results.
The shipment is part of the actions of the Sustainable Management Project for Accompanying Fauna in Trawl Fisheries in Latin America and the Caribbean (REBYC II-LAC). By CEPSUL/ICMBio, the project is coordinated by biologist Derien Vernetti Duarte. The Municipal Secretariat of Fisheries and Agriculture accompanies and supports fishermen in research on the use of TED in Guaratuba.
